Join fellow craft enthusiasts on a 3-day tour of beautiful Asheville, North Carolina and the fabulous Penland School of Crafts led by the JRA 2018-2019 Distinguished Artist Tim Tate. We are thrilled to announce that Tim is also the featured artist of the 2018 Penland Auction!

Included: Admission to the Penland Auction (Friday and Saturday), Craft After Dark benefit at the Center for Creativity Craft & Design, admission to the Chihuly Gardens at Biltmore and some meals (Dinner on Thursday, dinner on Friday, and lunch on Saturday).
Not Included: Transportation, Accommodations, and some meals are not included.

Price: $700 (for members only)



The trip will begin on Thursday, August 9 with a visit to the studio of Alex Bernstein followed by visits to Blue Spiral Gallery, Bender Gallery, and Momentum Gallery. Stephanie Moore, Director of the Center for Craft Creativity and Design (CCCD) and moderator of our 2018 Spring Craft Weekend Symposium will join the group for a no-host lunch.

That evening, participants will attend Craft After Dark the CCCD annual benefit with local food & drink, music, dancing, hands-on activities including a silent auction of pieces by the 2017 Wingate fellows.  

On Friday, August 10, the group will tour the Chihuly Gardens at the historic Biltmore and have the opportunity to explore more of downtown Asheville before making their way to Penland for the Annual Benefit Auction.

Set in the beautiful mountains, the auction features the sale of over 240 works in books, clay, drawing, glass, iron, letterpress, painting, photography, printmaking, textiles, and wood. The Penland auction is one of the most important craft collecting events in the Southeast and a perfect opportunity to support Penland’s educational programs, which have helped thousands of people live creative lives.

On Saturday, August 11, participants will participate in the second half of the Penland auction and be free to visit all the artist studios that are open on campus.  Festivities will conclude at 3pm.
