Free and open to the public

Explore the state of craft at the Smithsonian American Art Museum McEvoy Auditorium, featuring the honorees Roberto Lugo, Kristina Madsen, Carolyn Mazloomi, and William Gudenrath and Amy Schwartz of the Studio of the Corning Glass Museum. Honorees will be given their awards during the "I Spy" Gala.

Attire is casual. Limited on-street parking at meters; several paid parking garages are available in the neighborhood.

​ROBERTO LUGO | MASTER OF THE MEDIUM
Roberto Lugo is a ceramic artist, social activist, spoken word poet, educator and the youngest artist to ever receive the James Renwick Alliance for Craft Master of the Medium. Lugo's activism is represented in his artworks, where he draws together hip-hop culture, history, politics and his personal background.

​KRISTINA MADSEN | MASTER OF THE MEDIUM
Kristina Madsen is a furniture maker who has been working in the field for almost 50 years and was an early member of the American studio furniture movement. She is known for her intricate Oceanic carving techniques, classic Euro­pean cabinet-making skills and exquisite craftsmanship.

​CAROLYN L. MAZLOOMI | DISTINGUISHED EDUCATOR
Carolyn Mazloomi is a curator, quilter, author, art historian, collector and aerospace engineer. She has been at the forefront of educating the public about the interpretation, styles and techniques among African American quilters for almost 50 years. She founded the African-American Quilt Guild of Los Angeles in 1981 and the Women of Color Quilters Network (WCQN) in 1985. ​

​​WILLIAM GUDENRATH AND AMY SCHWARTZ, THE STUDIO AT CORNING MUSEUM OF GLASS | DISTINGUISHED EDUCATORS
Amy Schwartz and Bill Gudenrath moved to Corning NY in 1995 ​to design, build, program, and lead The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass. It has since become an internationally renowned center for glassmaking and education, hosting residencies, community programs, classes and providing space for artists. ​
