CHRISTINE GOH
As a ceramic artist, I am inspired by patterns found in nature and the changing light and colors in seasons. I seek forms that express the boundaries of land and water, the manmade and nature, unusual creatures, and objects shaped by the environment and passage of time. In my designs, I am interested in juxtaposing modern and traditional elements to make cultural connections. I am influenced by architecture, craft, and art. I explore the aesthetic and structural possibilities of clay by building composite forms from wheel-thrown, altered, and carved components. These built forms are canvases for painting and mono-printing slips, stains, and glazes. Craft is important for connecting the human spirit, through the creative making process to the usage of the object. Craft builds community.
