Amongst the Rocky Mountains and brick factory ruins, stands the Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts, a creative, artistic retreat for emerging and established ceramic artists and lovers of ceramics.

Once a year, the organization invites a critic to meet with artists, and develop essays for the Fellowship Exhibition Catalog. This year, the Alliance is happy to share with you the visiting Jentel Critic is board member, Diane Charnov.

Charnov met Fellowship participants artists Ben Carter, Jessica Brandl, Kelsey Duncan, Stuart Gair, Iva Haas, and Kelly Stevenson during her time at the Bray. This exchange resulted in thoughtful essays exploring the life and art of each ceramicist for 2019 First Year Fellowship Exhibition catalog. To view her writings on these talented artists, please view the catalog, by clicking the link below.

Ben Carter, one of the fellows interviewed, is known for his podcast Tales of a Red Clay Rambler, which Diane was featured on May 23, 2019. Here the conversation is turned from interviewer to interviewee and she explains her progression from writing 100 pages of US policy a week, to becoming a US political speech writer for former Korean Prime Minister. Today, Charnov is an Arts writer for the JRA Craft Quarterly and countless other publications.
